Immersive Rooms

Swansea | Carmarthen

Welcome to the UWTSD Immersive Rooms, facilities designed to provide UWTSD staff and students with a state-of-the-art teaching and learning environment. Specially designed rooms, leveraging technology to provide an immersive and interactive educational experience.

The Immersive Rooms consist of three large video walls, creating an enclosed digital environment.

Accompanied by a surround sound system, the spaces are designed to stimulate multiple senses, emphasising the importance of the student experience in education and enhancing retention and understanding of complex concepts.

Three large video walls, creating an enclosed digital environment

The Immersive Rooms exploit the power of experiential learning, removing the barriers surrounding VR headsets. These immersive spaces bridge theory and practice through a blend of virtual and physical, accommodating all learners and learning methods.

The spaces are bookable for all staff and all courses across UWTSD and are intended for multiple users. These collaborative spaces promote group-based learning experiences, offering a safe environment to simulate different environments from school classroom observations to high-risk industrial setting health and safety training.

UWTSD Immersive Rooms are supported by The Digital Experience and Engagement Team.

The Technology

The technology used to build the rooms have been designed and developed to be intuitive by nature, where users of all technology capabilities are able to display content and create an engaging experience. The core technologies featured within the Immersive Rooms consist of the 3 large video walls, a touch screen display, and server stack.

The Screens

The main focal point of the rooms, the three video walls, have been designed and constructed to form a seamless canvas that wraps around the room.

Samsung IER/IEA LED display panels, industry leading in High Dynamic Range (HDR) picture quality, creating high quality visual content within the Immersive Rooms. The picture clarity accentuates the ability to effectively simulate physical environments, adding a realism to the experience that enhances teaching and learning.
