MISPER Escape Room

A cozy classroom with pink walls, bean bag chairs with stuffed animals, a TV, and a large rug with "University of Wales" text.

Take part in an immersive missing persons investigation, where teams solve interconnected puzzles by searching, decoding, and combining physical and digital clues hidden throughout a specially designed immersive experience.

What is it?

MISPER is an immersive, scenario-based learning activity that places participants inside a missing person investigation, delivered as a guided escape-room style experience in a specially equipped immersive room environment. It was developed as a short format educational tool to teach investigative skills, build critical thinking and cognitive development, and collaborative problem-solving in an engaging, hands-on format.

The experience is facilitated by DE&E staff members for groups of participants (students, staff, team building etc.), encouraging teamwork, observation, discussion, and collaborative soft skills.

Experience and Impact

The MISPER immersive room escape experience is a prime example of experiential
learning, driving learning through direct experience, active engagement, and the application of knowledge in a simulated real-world context.

MISPER offers a powerful experiential learning environment. Instead of passively receiving information, students are actively immersed in a scenario-based investigation. This experience develops transferable soft skills that are highly valued in academic and professional employment settings, such as teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and leadership.

The collaborative nature of the MISPER Escape Room format ensures that students from all disciplines learn from one another, practice negotiation and decision-making, and experience the challenges of working in a team under time pressure. This hands-on approach has made the learning more memorable and impactful, as students are not just learning about investigation or collaboration, but actively experiencing and practicing these essential skills in a safe and controlled, immersive environment.
