Resources for Research

The resources below can help you with your research.

LibKey Nomad

LibKey Nomad is a browser extension that automatically provides full-text access to journal articles and ebooks subscribed to by UWTSD or open access alternatives while you are carrying out your research on the web.

How does it work?

Libkey Nomad checks a library’s holdings information and then checks for open access alternatives to ensure you are directed to the best available version of an article.  It also integrates directly with PubMed allowing you to download articles from the search results.

How do I install it?

LibKey Nomad is available for most popular browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari).

How to use it

When you land on a page with an article that is available to download, LibKey Nomad will display an alert on the bottom left of your screen:

Web page showing a scientific article titled 'Development of Molybdenum-Containing Facing Ceramic based on Low-Plastic Clay' with author names and publication date, including pricing options on the right side for buying the article PDF and journal subscription, and a prominent Download PDF button at the bottom left corner highlighted with an orange circle.

Click on this to download the PDF. If you are off campus, you will be prompted to login via the UWTSD login screen with your university username and password. LibKey Nomad does not store your credentials.

If the university doesn’t have a subscription and there isn’t an open access version available, the Access Options button will appear. Clicking on this will take you to the library catalogue where you can request the item through our Need More Service.

LibKey Nomad now also provides access to ebooks. The view ebook button will appear on a page if UWTSD subscribes to the ebook.  If you are off-campus you will be prompted to login via the UWTSD login screen with your university username and password. LibKey Nomad does not store your credentials.  The button works on platforms such as Amazon, Wikipedia and Google Books as well as publisher platforms.

Is there anything else I should know?

  • You don’t need to create an account with LibKey Nomad
  • LibKey Nomad doesn’t retain your login details
  • LibKey Nomad is only active on specific scholarly publisher or database ebooksites, all other domains are ignored.

Google Scholar

Google Scholar can be a useful research tool, that searches across a wide range of academic literature. You can find articles, theses, book chapters and conference abstracts on there from university research repositories and scholarly websites.

How can I make the best use of it?

When you are on campus Google Scholar is configured to show the full text-text options available to you through library subscriptions. Clicking on View It @UWTSD Library will take you to the item in the library catalogue.

You can also configure Google Scholar to show this when you are off campus.

  1. Go to Google Scholar
  2.  from the user menu at the top left of the screen
  3. Go to Library Links, search for University of Wales Trinity Saint David and select ‘View It @ UWTSD Library’
  4. Click the save button

You can also set up Google Scholar to import citations directly into the RefWorks citation management tool.

  1. Select settings from the user menu at the top left of the screen
  2. Under the Search Results section you’ll see the Bibliography Manager
  3. Under Show links to import citations into, select RefWorks from the drop-down meu
  4. Click the save button

That’s it you’re ready to go.

Remember that Google Scholar uses a wide range of sources and not all will be of high quality.  Although you may find some useful resources it is essential to evaluate them. Learn more about this in our Academic and InfoSkills section.
