If you have lost an item, make sure you tell us as soon as possible via library@uwtsd.ac.uk or by visiting one of our libraries.
You will have to pay the replacement cost of the item, and if you have accrued any fines on that item, you will have to pay those too.
Books can be returned to any campus library regardless of where they were borrowed.
NO FINES will be charged on overdue standard or one-week loans unless another library customer has requested the item.
Our Fairer Fines policy was introduced alongside automatic renewal to improve your customer experience.
You will receive an email to your university email address, notifying you of the item return date and it is important to check your emails regularly. If you need the item again or if all copies of the item you need are out on loan you can place a request for it via the library catalogue.
Don’t forget that our Online Library is open 24/7
If your items do not automatically renew for any reason, they will display as ‘overdue’ on your library account. This will prevent further borrowing; however, the items will not incur a fine when returned. Please note that any overdue items which are not returned within 60 days of the due date will be considered lost and you will be billed for their replacement.
When you borrow an item, the library will automatically renew it for you up to one calendar year or until it is requested by another library customer or the item is returned.
You can request items for collection at any of our libraries via our Click & Collect service. Items should be requested via our library catalogue, please watch the video above to see how to place a request. You will receive an email to let you know when the item is available for collection. You will then have seven days to collect your item. Check our library opening times before visiting.
If you find an item on our catalogue that you want to take out on loan, but it is not available or it is missing from the shelves, you can place a request to reserve the item. Once the item becomes available to loan, you will get an email notifying you that it is ready for collection.
If our libraries do not stock the resources you require, please use our Need More? service. Many UWTSD students and staff can also take advantage of borrowing schemes to join other library services throughout the UK. Please visit Accessing libraries outside UWTSD for further details.
We recommend that if you are going away, you return your items before you leave or be prepared to send them back to us via post should they be requested by another library customer.
Our Click & Collect service allows you to request items online and collect them at a time to suit you.

These are available to borrow for an initial one-week loan period and will automatically renew on a daily basis for up to one calendar year, unless they are requested by another library customer (or your account is due to expire). Reference collections including journals and theses are available in all our libraries.
If you need to borrow an item the library doesn’t have, please see our Need More Service for more information.
If you have lost a library item, have a query regarding your fines, or have any other questions about borrowing library items, please contact the library at or you can visit our libraries. Don’t forget to check our opening hours.
Self-service kiosks are available throughout all libraries, allowing you to borrow and return items using your ID card. Once you have chosen the items you wish to borrow, take them with your ID card to the self-service kiosk, where you will be issued with a receipt showing the date of return. If you have any queries, please go to the service desk.
You will not be able to use the service:
Keep in touch with us; let us know if you have any problems issuing, renewing or returning any items or any other queries. Distance leaners are eligible to use our postal loans service for items which are not available electronically and requests for postal loans should be placed via our library catalogue. This service is only available to those students registered as Distance Leaners. Please note a small postage charge will be added to your library account for postal loan requests.
On completion of your studies, you will be asked to return all materials on loan and clear any outstanding charges. If you are granted an extension, this will need to be confirmed officially and recorded with Registry before your library access can also be extended.
Please contact us via the Library Chat bubble on this page if you have any questions.
Self-service kiosks can be used to issue/renew/return items or staff can issue items for you at the service desk in any library (you must always produce your ID card).
Items must be returned by the date/time stamped on the date label or on the receipt if you have issued the item yourself. You are responsible for all items issued to your ID card.
You may borrow items from our standard collections for the whole of the academic year.
