Collection Development Policy

The Library and Learning Resources Collection Development Policy provides a framework for the management and development of our electronic and print collections. The policy applies to all resources held by our campus libraries, excluding special collections and archives, and aims to ensure that material held reflects the needs of the University community.

Please note that Library and Learning Resources are committed to providing an unbiased selection of the widest possible range of material to support the learning and teaching objectives of the University, and the inclusion of any particular resource within the library collections does not constitute an endorsement of the views contained within the work.

Academic staff are responsible for ensuring that Library and Learning Resources are made aware of the resources needed to support their students, including the number of students likely to require a specific resource. Purchase requests can be made through our acquisitions service and should comply with our Online Resource List Policy

We also welcome suggestions to improve the diversity within our collections from any source.

Donations

The Library is grateful for offers of donations but, in order to maintain a high quality, relevant collection, we regret that we cannot accept everything offered to us. Please check our Donations Policy for further details.

Cataloguing Code of Ethics

The Cataloguing Code of Ethics was created by the Cataloguing Ethics Steering Committee, consisting of members from cataloguing communities in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, with the assistance of Working Group members from the international cataloguing community.

Statement on Harmful Language

We are committed to implementing the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our cataloguing practices, and to using bibliographic descriptions that represent marginalized groups respectfully.
