ORCID stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID. Your ORCID is a unique, persistent identifier which is free of charge to researchers and can help ensure that all your grants, publications and outputs are correctly attributed to you. ORCID is a global, not-for-profit organization sustained by fees from member organisations. Publishers and research funders are increasingly using ORCID to identify researchers who submit bids and publications.
An ORCID is for life: if you change institution anywhere in the world you take it with you. Unlike employer or publisher identifiers, your ORCID record is managed by you and stays with you throughout your career. Organisations such as HESA, the Wellcome Trust and publishers use ORCID to ensure all aspects of the research and publishing process link together seamlessly. Registering for an ORCID will allow trusted organisations to add your research information to your record, keeping all your research together in one place, even if conducted with multiple institutions or employers.
UWTSD now records ORCID iDs on the University Research Repository and plans to integrate with ORCID in the future. We strongly recommend all researchers apply for an ORCID and use it when depositing new publications in the Repository to take advantage of this functionality.
To join, you will need to complete a Libraries Together Passport form. Once completed the form can be submitted at the Help Desk of any of our libraries and a library borrower account will be created for you.
Useful information to help you get the most from your ORCID iD is available from ORCID at ORCID for Researchers.
You can now connect your ORCID account with your UWTSD Research Repository account. This allows you to include your ORCID iD automatically with future Repository submissions, and to import your research from your ORCID profile to your Repository account for deposit, or export research previously submitted to our Repository to your ORCID profile.
