Online Resource Lists

We are committed to working in partnership with colleagues in academic departments, to provide the best learning experience possible for UWTSD students.

Students:

You can access your online resource list on the Moodle module page. There should be a link in a column on the right-hand side of the page.

If there is no resource list linked in your Moodle module page, contact your module lecturer.

From the library catalogue you can select a resource and within the item record you can select ‘reading list’ and ‘add to favourites’. You will need to login to use this function.

From an online resource list you can click on the three dots and select the option ‘save as favourite’. Your favourites list is available on the top left of the page in the reading list platform.

Hover your mouse over the link to the resource and a ‘mark as broken’ link will appear. Click on this link and a pop-up box will show on the screen. There is space for you to write a brief explanation of the problem. Press ‘confirm’ and the issue will be sent to the library. Library staff will investigate the problem and resolve it as soon as possible. We will contact you if we need further information, and when the issue has been resolved we will let you know via email.

In the top right-hand corner of the screen there is a settings option in the form of a cog symbol. Clicking on this opens a menu which contains language and accessibility settings.

Compiling Online Resource Lists: Best Practice

A good reading/resource list can enable students to manage their reading more effectively, develop their independent research skills, enhance their learning and understanding of a topic and raise student satisfaction rates.

The UWTSD Online Resource List policy provides a framework to ensure that Library and Learning Resources and academic staff work together to enhance students’ experiences of working with reading lists. However, these are some top tips to get you started:

Include a range of learning resources including books, journals, video clips, podcasts, images, artefacts and web sites.

  • Be realistic; make the most of resources currently available from the library or easily obtainable i.e. not out of print or prohibitively expensive.
  • Update your lists regularly to ensure they contain up to date material, most recent editions, are accurate and any URLs reflect up-to-date web addresses (URLs).
  • Link resource lists to InfoSkills provision to help students develop their digital and information literacy skills as they progress through their course.
  • Make them diverse and representative of the student population
  • Make sure they are available in electronic format, removing barriers for large cohorts and off-campus students.

Check on the module Moodle page. If there is a resource list that has been created it should appear on this page. If you are not sure please contact Resource.Lists@uwtsd.ac.uk.

Check that the list in Leganto has been associated with the relevant module code: Select ‘link to course’ at the top of the reading list and enter the module code. This connects the resource list to the module page in Moodle.

When the list is ready, please select ‘my list is ready’. This sends the list to the library for review. After the list has been reviewed the status of the list will change to ‘published’. The list will then be visible to students. This usually takes a few days.

Click on the three dots at the top of the Leganto resource list page. The last option on the drop-down menu is ‘delete list’.

At the top of the Leganto page click on the three dots and select ‘edit list’. Here you can update the name of the resource list. You will also need to ensure that the resource list is associated with the correct Moodle page. One of the options in the menu after selecting the three dots is ‘manage link to course’. Here you can add and remove course association, so the list connects to the relevant Moodle pages.

You can add items to your lists that are already held in the library by searching directly through our online library.

Click on ‘+add’ then ‘search the library’. Search for the item you are looking for by title, author, ISBN, ISSN or keyword. Once you have found what you’re looking for, use the ‘+’ icon, follow the instruction on your screen. After you select to add the item to the required section, a pop-up window will promote you to tag the item; this will determine how many copies the library buy for the module. If you’d like to remove the item, click on the three dots on the right side of the item, then ‘delete item’. The citation will be removed from the list.

If you are still unable to make any changes to the resource list, contact Resource.Lists@uwtsd.ac.uk and the library will check you have the relevant permissions.

You can make updates to your resource list at any time. You can check the library catalogue for new editions and add new citations for resources that you would like us to purchase. Please remember to re-send your list to the library so we can purchase the new items and check the items on the list are up to date and working properly.

Please contact Resource.Lists@uwtsd.ac.uk if you need any advice.

Our Online Resource List Policy states that resource lists should ideally contain up to 7 essential items, but with an absolute maximum of 15. The lists can also include a maximum of 25 further reading items.

Please refer to our Online Resource List policy for further information.

It can take up to 2-3 working days to check the list and make it available to students.

On the item you want digitised, click on the ‘full details’ link and then go to the ‘item actions’ tab.  At the bottom of the page there is a button ‘request digitisation’. Click on this link and input the details of the section/chapter required. A ‘digitisation in progress’ tag will be added to the citation after the request has been submitted.

One chapter/article or 10% of the total publication, whichever is the greater. Please see the Copyright Policy for further information.

No, if we are aware of a newer edition we will endeavour to update the lists.

Please report the broken link to the library using the ‘mark as broken’ link.

We will purchase 1 copy for essential reading per 10 students, and 1 copy for further reading per 50 students. We prioritise purchasing eBooks when possible. Please see our Collection Development Policy for more information.

Print items can take up to a few weeks to become available in the library, and sometimes longer if they are not currently in stock with our suppliers. Ebooks are usually available within a week.

Please also bear in mind the end of year ordering deadline which is usually around the end of May to allow orders to be processed by the end of the budget year in July. Orders made after the deadline and before the following year’s budget is released will take longer. The ordering deadline is shared via the staff bulletin.

You will receive a system generated email when an item is rejected, and a note will be placed on the item in Leganto.

If you need more information, please contact Resource.Lists@uwtsd.ac.uk.
