Bishop Thomas Burgess (1756-1837) bequeathed to St David’s College, Lampeter, his personal library of some 9,000 volumes.

The East-India Company surgeon, Thomas Phillips (1760-1851), gave 22 500 volumes to St David’s College, Lampeter, between 1834 and 1851.
In 1907 it was announced that any contributions towards the new college of St David's would be gratefully received.
